FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Do I have to include my e-mail address when I make a comment?

Yes. And, no. You need to include AN e-mail address. You could make one up, if you want. Whenever I need to submit an e-mail address to a website and I do not want anyone to be able to SPAM me, I use the fake address of nospam@aol.com. You can, too.

If I do use my own e-mail address, can anyone get it?

Yes. And, no. If you use your own e-mail address, people who click on your name will be able to get your e-mail address (which is why I endorse fake addresses). However, if, in addition to an e-mail address, you also include a website URL, then people who click on your name are redirected to that website. You can put any website you want people to read, whether you own it or not. Before I had my own website, I often used websites I wanted to promote, like http://www.nra.org/, when posting comments to the web. Now, of course, when I post to the internet, I give the address of my own website.

How can I e-mail someone a link to a specific post on your website, when the posts get shoved down lower every time you add new material?

At the bottom of each post, there is a bunch of information that includes the name of the poster, the categories in which the post will be archived, the date of the post, comments, trackback, and permalink. The permalink is a link that will always bring you directly to that post. So if you want to e-mail a link, right click on the permalink, choose to copy shortcut, then paste it into your e-mail.

What is a trackback?

A trackback is a tool that bloggers use to give credit to other bloggers. If I cite another blogger, I send him a trackback. Then, his post will include a link to my post. That way, he (and his readers) will know that I am citing him. Not all bloggers use the trackback tool, though. It is a matter of choice. My policy is to give a trackback anytime I use material from another blogger, if that blogger uses trackback. If that blogger does not use trackback, I just make sure to include his information in my post.

Some of those links in your posts take me to registration pages for newspapers; what do I do about that?

Register and read the article! If you are worried about privacy, security, cookies, and such, you can always sign up with a fake name, then purge your pc with a tool like spybot. I am registered with every source I cite. I gave them all fake e-mail addresses, and have never had a single problem with junk mail or computer security.

How do I e-mail you? UPDATED!

I have a new e-mail address just for my blog. The address is:

g u l l y b o r g A T g m a i l D O T c o m.

If you ever need to put your address online, spell it out like that; it makes it harder for the spambots to steal it.

If you want to send me a personal message, use this address. If you want to contact me to make general comments about what I post, I prefer that you write to the comments sections of my posts.

Are those your feet?

Yes, those are my feet.
