NW Republican brings to our attention the latest expose on Kevin Mannix, courtesy of the Oregonian.
Today is a bad day for the world to know that your entire political career has been based on funding from sexual hypnotherapist Loren Parks... especially when your platform relies on "family values" more than any other political issue.
Loren Parks: to paraphrase Tobias Funke, he's "an analyst and a therapist... I guess you could say... an analrapist..."
Or, I guess you could say... MOONBAT!
As for the expected Willamette Week hit, my sources from the rag's inner circle tell me it will come one week from today. This will have two effects: it will bring the impact of the story out closer to the primary, and it will prolong the overall impact of the Willamette Week and Oregonian stories together. Considering how much Willamette Week and the Oregonian hate each other (as NW Republican reminds us), this says a lot.
Here is a little bit of additional insider information, on hatred of a different sort, to put it into perspective while we wait:
Willamette Week has two owners, Richard Meeker and Mark Sussman, both nonpracticing lawyers. Meeker's wife is Ellen Rosenblum, the most recently appointed member of the Oregon Court of Appeals. Before that, she was a Multnomah County circuit court judge, appointed by Neil "I love Ron Saxton almost as much as underage girls" Goldschmidt. Meanwhile, Willamette Week, and therefore Meeker, has been extremely critical of Kulongoski for not living up to the "progressive" ideal. Apparently, Kulongoski's biggest hurdle in promoting Ellen was overcoming his hatred of Meeker... not to mention the fact that her appointment came after the Goldschmidt child rape scandal broke...
What a mess!
In other words, it is unclear whether or not the Meeker-Rosenblum family has a pro- or anti-Kulongoski bias: on the one hand, they owe Kulongoski a debt of gratitude for what amounts to essentially lifetime employment in a cushy and prestigious job; on the other hand, there has apparently been bad blood between these big members of the local legal community for some time.
And with Ron Saxton so chummy with Neil Goldschmidt, who knows what's really going on?
I guess we'll have to see whether or not the upcoming hit on Mannix is pointed more towards bringing down Mannix in the primary - to help Saxton, or in the general - to help Kulongoski, or both...
Only one thing is certain: this will be a very interesting article...

You know what is interesting about all of this - it seems that Saxton is targeting only Mannix. It makes you wonder if he feels Jason won't be a threat come the middle of May.
I also am waiting for some bombshell to hit the Oregonian regarding Atkinson which would be a definate sign that Saxton is lobbing bombs.

This is an actual quote from Loren Park's own website:
--
I am what is known as a "Lay Therapist."

No kidding!

Yet more--
Read (with caution -- adult language inside):
http://www.psychresearch.com/sexwomen.htm
Read about how Loren HAS SEX with his "clients" as "therapy."
THIS IS HIS OWN SITE. This is not someone else's claims.
LOREN PARKS IS GETTING TO HAVE SEX WITH STRANGERS AS "THERAPY."
In the legitimate medical profession, this would cause you to lose your license.
In most jurisdictions, getting paid to have sex is PROSTITUTION.
THIS MAN GAVE KEVIN MANNIX ALMOST ALL OF HIS CAMPAIGN MONEY!

Uh, so what. Loren Parks is nutty.
Your facts say that Parks supports Mannix. Are you alleging that Mannix supports Parks? Because I see no evidence of it anywhere.
Should I surmise that because you take instruction from U of O you agree with their views? No.
Stop trying to throw poop around the cage because Mannix convinced a goofy rich guy to give him a bunch of money. That says nothing about Mannix.
Now if Mannix sets up his own sex-with-clients website, then you would have a story.
This kind of attempt to tarnish Mannix with the predelictions of a guy whose only relationship is that he takes money from the guy is irresponsible and diminishes your credibility.
I am almost 100% sure that if some freak (say, Michael Jackson) offered you a million bucks you would take it. That doesn't mean you like to sleep with little boys. It means you are smart enough not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

No Tony, it means you don't have the integrity to turn away bad money. A guy gives you that much money, you owe him something. An honorable person wouldn't want to be indebted to someone like that.

Would it be different if Kevin "Family Values" Mannix accepted money from Larry Flint? How about from Howard Stern? How about Ron Jeremy? What about taking a check from David Duke? What about Ken Lay? Where do you draw the line between "just accepting a donation" and "accepting dirty money?"
You are judged by the company you keep. When you are cashing checks from sleazy sex perverts (oh, and apparently than funneling that money into your law firm instead spending in on legitimate campaigning), it sends a pretty bad message about you.
When these checks make up half of your entire campaign budget, it sends a HUGE pretty bad message about you.

Would I take the money for me personally? You bet. But if I was a candidate for office, I would have a lot of explaining to do. People don't just fork over a million dollars for the hell of it.
And it would matter A LOT if the name on the check said "pay to Mr. Smith" or "pay to Mr. Smith for Office."
One is a personal gift (which is dubious enough, and would have the IRS sniffing around), the other is a CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION and subject to more public scrutiny.
We on the right like to point out that liberal candidate get big checks from people like George Soros, Barbra Streisand, etc. We then like to point out that these freaks are the ones funding the liberal agenda. We would be hypocrites if we then defended Kevin Mannix when he is obviously completely funded by a freak.

Does anybody know where all the morally straight, responsible Republican conservative RICH business people are, who could fund a campaign on the Right? The Dems/Moderates have skads or at least one Biggie in Soros. Seems like we ought to have one?

Steve Forbes?

You may find this a little surprising but I am not as spun up about Mannix taking money from Loren Parks.
The biggest problem is that he has tried to hide that fact.
If Mannix would not have tried to hide that $125,000 check it would not have been news.

It defintely made a shady situation into a downright bad one.
