Folks have been talking about how amazing it would be for the democrats to, on one ticket, have not only a woman candidate, but also the first African-American candidate of the two parties.
Only the thing is, up until recently, most people wouild have assumed the woman would be Hillary Clinton.
Now, maybe not so much. Could THIS be the "winning ticket" for the democrats?
My prediction: if Barack Obama is the nominee (and that's a big if), he will choose Oprah Winfrey as his running mate. It's all part of that whole "new vision" and "not a Washington insider" and "character over resumes."
He won't pick Hillary because she is attacking him so ruthlessly (and he would probably be much more fearful of assassination than other Presidents would ordinarily be). With Hillary out, that probably also eliminates Bill Richardson, the Clinton stooge. John Edwards? Been there, done that. He wouldn't pick someone who already lost as VP once before. Joe Biden? Not the guy who was surprised that America had a "clean, articulate black man" running for office. Yep... most of the conventional top contenders for the job wouldn't work out.
Barack O' Winfrey 2008.
I can hear the (slightly updated) campaign song now...
"O! O! It's Magic..."
And the slogan: "O2: Fresh Air for 2008!"
