I hate Google
Actually, I hate ALL software companies that try to force you into using "new" versions of their products with "new" features you don't want.
Google is apparently now forcing all users to use their "suggested searches."
I don't want that feature. I don't want to start typing in a search for "hot as hades" and, after five letters, be told that maybe what I am searching for is "hot asians." Try it. You'll see why this "feature" isn't very friendly for people with taste. Or kids
And no, I am not talking about auto-completion from browser history. That is a completely different problem. This is all Google.
I scoured Google's site for any information that could show me how to disable the new feature. The only instructions I could find, namely, to retype http://www.google.com into my browser, didn't work. Apparently, that was how you did it if you were using the beta Google suggest. Now that they have made this the default search tool, they didn't bother to actually tell users or provide any option for people who like to just type something in without being told what they meant to type.
Well, readers, fortunately for you, I have found a solution. You can access a suggestion-free Google server at this address: http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en
If you have Google bookmarked, just update the URL with this one, and (for now, at least) you can lose the obnoxious drop down full of suggestions. Hopefully, this will continue to work, or Google will put a "turn off" feature in their settings.

dude, google frigin sucks! spent like 5 hrs trying to stop this new shiat, found you by googling "i hate google" and now got rid of the stupid crap... thks man yu rock!

I am shocked to see virtually no mention of this anywhere else on the web today.

Like the first poster "I hate Google" brought me to your site. This new feature sucks and if I hadn't found this godsend of info you provided Google would have lost my home page status. Maybe Google will learn a lesson from this.
Thank you a million times over!

I have OfficialHomePage.org as my home page, and even though I have Google set on it as my search engine, it isn't Google directly, so the suggested searches feature ins't used.

If you're using Firefox, right-click on the Google icon next to the search window and uncheck "Show Suggestions". As for other browsers, I don't use them and have no idea.
Hope this helps in the preservation of sanity.

Oh, you are my hero!!
"Actually, I hate ALL software companies that try to force you into using "new" versions of their products with "new" features you don't want." Totally agree! I am so surprised that nobody else is talking about this annoying Big Brother feature. Thanks for the link - works like a charm.

I hate google. I stopped using gmail after I heard that google owns all your mail you send and receive. I use Yahoo! and Lycos.
