The Russian Bear is terrified of a strong American leader who is an expert on the old Soviet Union. Hence, Russia goes out of its way to demonize Rice, when, considering her role in the Bush administration will soon end and her job filled by Bush's successor, it could just as easily blow her off.

Yes, they must fear she will continue to serve in a McCain adminstration, possibly even as VP, so they need to demonize her in the eyes of their comrades.
