Ladies and Gentleman, meet the new face of the revolution:

Representative Joe Wilson from South Carolina, who made the unprecedented move of calling the President a LIAR - not just on television, but during the President's nationally televised address to Congress and the nation, is a hero.

While weasels like McCain are calling on Wilson to apologize, I salute the man for having the balls to tell the truth - and the truth is, illegal aliens WILL and DO receive benefits from Medicare, Medicaid, and other government programs under current law and under proposed reforms.  There is NOTHING in any bill supported by the President or Congressional democratics that prevents illegal aliens from obtaining benefits.

In normal times, I would agree it is wrong to disrespect the office of the President - but these are no longer normal times.  The President has already socialized banks, the auto industry and insurance.  Now he wants to take over the health care industry without even reading a bill.  In earlier times, colonies declared independence and states went to war with each other over issues like this.  And so, the time has come for people to be willing to stand up and shout the truth.  Protocol be damned!

Besides, it not like he threw a shoe at the man...

Wilson just went from a political nobody to up near the front of the line for the nomination to run against Obama as far as I am concerned.  His resume is actually pretty good.

Fair is fair

This was e-mailed to me by a retired Navy pilot:

Barack Obama ran an ad claiming John McCain can't use a computer.

OK.  Barack Obama can't land a fighter jet on a carrier in a storm at night.

Fair is fair.

And to be fair... McCain choses not to use a computer because his war injuries make it too painful to use a mouse and keyboard.  What is Obama's excuse?

It's not as bad as they are telling us...

...but it is still not good.  The polls, that is.

RCP average has Obama up about 6.  Some fairly reputable polls have him up by 7-9.

That is not good.  BUT, considering some historical facts about pre-election polls and actual election results, it is not dire.  At least, not yet.

Over the last several elections, polls have skewed towards the democrats.  Look at exit polls in 2004 that showed Kerry winning by a large margin, for instance.  So we can reasonably predict that actual election results will be somewhere from 2-4 points more favorable for McCain than pre-election polls suggest.

Another factor is the race factor: historically, minority candidates always do better in polls than at the ballot box.  Some people just won't vote for a minority, but they would rather tell a pollster something different than expose their racism.  So we can reasonably predict another 2-4 point shift for McCain.

Together, than means a possible 4-8 point shift.  But the polls show a 6-9 point lead for Obama - and there is still a margin of error on top of that.  So Obama might be as much 10-15 points ahead in the polls (of course, he might only 1-4 points up... tricky thing, those margins of error...).

What this means is:

The race is still wide open - but Obama is still holding a slight advantage.

Now comes the last historical factor: last-minute undecideds almost always break for the known quantity.  In this case, the known quantity is McCain.  People like status quo.  Even when everyone is chanting about "change," the fact is, a lot of people would rather keep things comfortable than try something new.  This is especially true when times are turbulent.  Better to have the seasoned warhorse than they untried pony.  McCain has been going down in the polls, but I think he hit bottom and the recent Palin debate has the GOP ticket moving back up.  That means the trend will be for McCain to climb.

The questions that remain are: how high does he have to climb to ensure a victory, and will he make it?

It is not as bad as they are telling us, but it is still not good.  McCain needs to deliver in his next two debates and hammer Obama hard with targeted advertising in battleground states.  He needs to stay on offense, because Obama is much weaker defending.

This will end up a nail-biter, for sure.

Because Daniel is right.

While I am a true conservative with libertarian leanings, and Gordon Smith is pretty far from that, I have been saying for years that it is wrong for conservatives in Oregon to pile on Smith.  Yes, he is much more moderate than we are.  But our state is much more liberal than we are.  Real conservatives don't fare so well here.  We have a choice between "somewhat liberal" and "extremely liberal."  Give me the somewhat over the extreme anyday.

This is not to say we shouldn't continue to elect real conservatives.  On the contrary.  But we need to pick our battles, and build from the ground up.  We need to run good candidates for local elections first, and use their victories to build the farm team for statewide elections down the road.  We can't do better than Gordon Smith because we have no better candidate.  But perhaps Gordon will want to retire from the Senate in six years, or sooner (if we elect a GOP Governor in two years, there is a strong possibility of President McCain tapping Smith for a Cabinet post like Agriculture or the Interior).  That means we need to focus on a few things here:

Re-elect Gordon Smith, so we don't get stuck with Jeff Merkley.

Re-elect Greg Walden, our only GOP Congressman (and an OK guy).

Re-elect Jason Atkinson to the State Senate and groom him for higher office.

Elect Rick Dancer Secretary of State.

Once we do these things, we can focus on 2010 and beyond, and gradually shift our alternative to socialism from "somewhat liberal" to conservative.

In the meantime, SUPPORT GORDON SMITH!

McCain hammers Obama HARD:

Who are the four top recipients of campaign cash from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac?

Two of them are Senators Obama and Clinton.  Another is former democrat nominee Senator Kerry.  The other was fellow democrat candidate for President, Senator Dodd, who chairs the Senate banking committee.

So, which party do you think represents the failed status quo?  Which ticket do you think can bring needed reform to CHANGE the system for the good?

Palin DOES understand international relations

And she even knows that "Georgia" is next to Russia, not Alabama!

Over at NW Republican there is a post about Palin's upcoming interview with Gibson.  Apparently, there will be a question about Georgia and NATO.  Palin takes a realist approach.  The left is sure to try twisting it into a "call for war" with Russia.  But the real gist of what she says is this:

IF Georgia joined NATO, and then IF Russia continued military action against Georgia, THEN it would be up to other NATO members to defend Georgia, militarily if necessary.

Of course, those are big ifs.  But what isn't said, at least not in the pre-show releases, is that the idea isn't to START a war with Russia, but to PREVENT a war between Russia and Georgia.  If Russia saw a NATO presence ready to react, it would be far less likely to proceed with hostile actions.  That's why, for example, we never saw Russia invade West Germany or any other NATO nation during the Cold War.

But the left will screw up.  They are so eager to attack Palin, they won't stop and think about what they are actually saying or what it might mean to our allies.  The left will now say that America should NOT be forced into a war, even if Georgia IS a member of NATO.  This will have the adverse effect of telling our allies that America is no longer willing to honor its defense treaties.  That is, if Obama is elected...

So, listen up, Germany.  Listen up, United Kingdom.  The message from the American left, and therefore from Obama's core supporters, will be this:

Elect Obama, and then the United States of America will no longer have to honor its NATO obligations.

Are you SURE that's the message you want to send?

The Obamessiah and his Senior Flunky have committed two of the biggest gaffes they could possibly commit.  Same day.  Different gaffes.  They are soooooo screwed now.

First, Obama lets slip the "big one" on gun control.  He just admitted he wouldn't "have the votes" in Congress to take away guns.  That means he has already been vote counting.  You do NOT poll your Congressional delegation on something that can bite you on the ass like this unless you are SERIOUSLY planning to move forward with legislation.  Back in 1994, the NRA mobilzed the pro-gun crowd in response to the assault weapons ban.  The result started with "Speaker" and ended with "Gingrich."  Now the democrat ticket has two F-rated candidates, and the Republicans have a war hero and a life-member caribou hunter ticket.  And the Heller decision, with many huge gun-rights questions left unanswered, has the pro-gun movement ready for action.  Do the math.

But the gun issue isn't why the forecast down below is calling for extra sweaters.  No, the BIG gaffe comes from Joe Biden, who just admitted it is a matter of his faith that LIFE BEGINS AT CONCEPTION.

I'll pause a moment while you pick yourself up from the ground.

Yes, he believes life begins at conception.  He is also still pro-choice.  So, in a nutshell, he is ok with what can then only be logically described as infanticide.  He would be better off, politicly, either becoming pro-life, or sticking with some sort of "three month" rule.  Because now he is on record as a baby killer.  The radical feminazi abortion-as-the-holy-sacrament crowd will now throw Biden under the bus.  They may as well support Sarah Palin, who at least is a woman and at least is able to reconcile her beliefs on abortion and metaphysics.

There will be no place on the democrat ticket for Biden now.  He is dead to the radical left at this point.  He needs to back down and let Barack put Hillary on the ticket.

It's funny... a few days ago, the left were the ones saying McCain and Palin had to pull an Eagleton.  Now, that's the only choice left for Barack Hussein Osama bin-Biden.  The democrats are totally screwed.  Polling coming out tomorrow will show McCain up by 10 points over Obama, and that's BEFORE tonights debacles.  They are going to lose BIG TIME.  The only question is: how bad will it be?  If they can dump Biden and put Hillary on the ticket, they will still lose (no way Obama can recover from a blow like losing his own VP pick), but at least they might retain Congress.  If Biden stays on the ballot, we might be looking at a new Speaker of the House come January.
