I am still boycotting The Drudge Report. No link, because I don't want you clicking it. Why? Annoying pop-ups.
And don't bother telling me to switch to Firefox or Opera or a Mac. I am using the browser I like. I also have a TON of safety software installed to stop SPAM, pop-ups, spyware, adware, viruses, etc. I used to work for an internet security company, so I actually do know what I am talking about. I have had ZERO problems with ANY of the other main websites I frequent. But for some reason, the advertising pop-up service Drudge is using manages to foil it all.
NO. MORE. DRUDGE.
If you hate pop-ups (and other net nasties) as much as I do, put your money (er, your mouse) where your mouth is and BOYCOTT DRUDGE.
There are plenty of other places to get the news. Look over on my left-hand sidebar. There are PLENTY of great news sources linked over there. Use them. Then, spread the word: Matt Drudge, we are SICK of your advertising partners. Change the way you do business, or we will continue to avoid your site. Make a post on your own blog if you have one. Tell your friends. Tell your neighbors. Tell the dog. But DON'T CLICK ON DRUDGE until he has changed his ways!
*cough*get a Mac*cough*
ok -- now that that's out of my system, why not write a ...er, thingie that defeats Drudge's particular pop-up nastiness. Like Safari has, only for the rest of you poor sods.
Not like I'm prejudiced or biased or nuttin'....

The reason no one writes codes that fill Macs with ads is that people who own Macs mostly pirate everything and aren't going to spend money on the things advertisers advertise.

oh. nevermind. you said don't mention Firefox.
ok, i won't. but i don't get Drudge's popups anymore after F******.

Actually, all you rabid Firefox/Opera/Mozilla/Linux/Mac people out there should be trying to STOP people from switching from Micro$oft. If more people switched over, there just might someday be enough of you to make it worth the advertisers whiles to pay people to code pop-ups that target you. And it also might be worthwhile for hackers to target you with trojan horses. Be thankful that over 90% of the computing world is running Windows and IE! As long as the rest of you remain insignificant, you remain safe from most of the techonological terrors...

I know exactly what your saying GB. I have STOPPED going there for that reason. those pop-ups are killers. My Pop-Up-Stopper never stops every freeking time I've gone there and even while I'm going for a headline and reading it the damn Drudge window pops up again!
He is a whore for ads. F--k him. Between the Blogoshpere and the other 100+ sites I have I get all the news I need to know. SCREW the 'breaking headlines'.

I still read Drudge occasionally, but I can't believe that no one has said anything about the fact that the idiots at Powerline now have pop-ups. Drudge is a commercial enterprise, powerline is a blog. Aren't they violating the canons of blogging?
Posted by: Matt | Tuesday, 07 June 2005 at 01:16 PM
Yep, I agree! Im sick of it too. Drudge needs to put a stop to it and I have complained to him directly. Money talks though so if the 9000 popups he shoots at us makes him money then I doubt he will change anything.

Actually, I hadn't noticed pop ups at Powerline--but then my blocker takes care of every site except Drudge. I hope whatever service he is using doesn't catch on.

I am running Firefox 1.0.3 and I decided today to bye-pass Drudge because HIS pop-ups gets past my browser. I can't think of another site that does this on a regular basis. I wasn't even aware that Powerline was a poping.

And here cometh the answer man.
Assuming you're running Windows XP, any flavor, and IE 6.0.x
1. Click Tools.
2. Click Internet Options.
3. Click the Security Tab.
4. Click the 'Restricted Sites' icon.
5. Click the 'Sites...' button.
6. In the 'Add this website to the zone' field, type WWW.DRUDGEREPORT.COM, click ADD, then click OK, and then click OK.
Poof, Drudge pop-ups nerfed. Take that Drudge.
:-) Don't clap, just throw money.

DRUDGE IS DE-POPPED!
You da man, "Dad," if that's your real name...

I haven't changed anything on my computer, but I haven't gotten any popups on Drudge in the past few days, which is likely 20 visits to his site.
Maybe he got the message and booted the ads on his own? I hope so.

I downloaded a free app pop-up stopper It handles Drudge as well as many other annoyances.

DJ:
Which one? People are saying their pop-up software isn't working, so which one did you download?
Posted by: Gullyborg | Friday, 17 June 2005 at 01:55 PM
Okay, they're back.
Just followed "Dad's" instructions. Hope it helps, and TIA if it does!

We almost lost my old pc (win '98)--files and all, tonight--thanks to Drudge. But with prayer and Avast (free version no less), I tracked down the Trojan and banished it to the chest. Hubby is now forbidden from visiting Drudge and he says he won't visit Savage either. Hallelujah! We'll stick with World's blog for conservative-ish news and I'll blog (from my mac) about the Drudge deathwish.

Happy to see I'm not the only one... will join the boycott. Had my computer cleaned of spyware, adware, trackware and every kind of ware today. The IT guy who cleaned it up said he'd never seen so much tracking. I suspect a bunch of it's from DRUDGE - I mean how else is he getting his money? probably not from that dumb tribal fusion ad...
