Welcome once again to the Carnival of Cordite! This is our special pre Fourth of July edition!
That's the flagpole I helped to erect last holiday weekend!
This week, we are pressed for time because my hosting service is about to shut down temporarily for service (if you are reading this on the evening of July 1 and things are wonky, that's why--try again in a few hours), and after that we have the holiday weekend. And all you contributors really came through this week with a ton of great entries! Therefore, this week we are going to use the good ol' fashioned link fest method in (more or less) the order received. We're light on commentary, but then all these fine entries speak for themselves.
Before we begin, one simple request: if you look over on the sidebar, you'll see a straw poll for the 2008 GOP Presidential nomination. Please take a moment to log your vote. Thank you!

Say Uncle wants you all to know about a new gun bloggers community at the Truth Laid Bear.
New contributor The Blogonomicon (that's a cool name!) is here to tell us What the District of Columbia Personal Protection Act Does.
Another new contributor, Because I Say So, is Playing With Statistics. Just so you know, I used to be a statistician in a quality assurance department, so I think numbers are fun!
From the Coyote Killer, some video about a flying gun.
I found the link to this one while browsing Kim du Toit's site:
The post is here, but there isn't much in the way of information about the hunter or this massive trophy. I just hope this doesn't turn into one of those urban legends, like this bear did:
Kevin the Techno Gypsy has pictures and video from Shooting Friday.
El Capitan of Baboon Pirates has his own range report, the Hill Country Blogfest Range Report.
Publicola offers up this reaction to the dreadful Kelo decision, Fire on the Mountain. Also from Publicola: A.R.T. Day! Hint: it's not about art. Countertop has commentary, thinking we should add an F.
Also from Countertop: Chick Guns, Chicks WITH Guns, and Daddy's Little Girl:
Comparing immigration law to gun control, Daniel of Daniel's Political Musings says We Should Probably Consult With the Mexican Constitution. Also from Daniel this week: We Fund Abortions, But You Have To Pay For Your Second Amendment.
Jerry the Geek, of Cogito Ergo Geek, writes up his latest IPSC match in The Lion Sleeps Tonite (or) Run Through the Jungle.
We have another range report from Mr. Completely, entitled Laughing Too Hard to Hit Anything. Also from Mr. Completely this week: UN Highlights Brazil Gun Crisis.
Ravenwood's Universe, in an update to a previous article, brings us Blaming The Victim II.
Ever had an otherwise perfectly good book or movie ruined for you because the writer made stupid mistakes about something you know well, like guns? Chris the AnarchAngel has some thoughts on this in So You Want To Write About Guns... My take: for me, the movie Pulp Fiction was going great right up until the climax, when Samuel L. Jackson refers to his nickel-plated Colt 1911, with the really, really big hole up in the front, as "Mr. 9mm." That totally broke my concentration. Writers, please, listen to Chris!
Alpha Patriot gives us part one of a series of posts: Crime in Britain.
I came across this analysis of John Lott's latest essay while browsing Clayton Cramer's Blog. Good stuff!
Eric's Grumbles Before the Grave has this to say about Shooting, Army Style.
Les Jones has a range report about one of these:
That's a Short Magazine Lee-Enfield (SMLE) No. 1 Mk III.
Speaking of which, Owen is having ejector trouble.
Wadcutter forgoes the gun in favor of the bow as he impersonates Robin Hood in Time To Start Stealing From The Rich.
If you aren't living in a cave, you probably already heard that Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor announced her retirement this morning. As the President prepares to nominate her replacement, knowing that whoever he chooses will face the most ruthless assault imaginable by the left, think about what this might mean for the future of our Second Amendment.
On the legal front, Trigger Finger writes more about the Seegars case. It's only a matter of time before one of these cases makes its way all the way to the Supreme Court. Will we have a gun-friendly majority when that time comes? Better write to the President and your Senators and let them know where YOU stand!
Shakey Pete's Shootin' Shack is lookin' fer help with Beeswax Wads in Black Powder Cartridges. And it wouldn't be a Carnival of Cordite without a post on, well, Cordite.
Getting back to dreadful Kelo, Sulfuric Attitude is Using the Eminent Domain Supreme Court Decision to Win 2A Support.
And coming full circle, it's time to name BLOG OF THE WEEK!
This week: SayUncle, who not only brings us the aforementioned new gun blogger community, but also has the excellent posts Guns and Baloney and When Gunnies Don't Know Laws. Good work!
Finally, in keeping with tradition, we end with a discussion question for the comments. This week:
As we celebrate the 229th Birthday of the United States of America, what does Independence Day mean to you? And for those of you reading this from another country, what are your perceptions about this holiday?
