Our local TV channel, Eugene's KVAL, is going to run a "news" story on blogs during their 11 PM newscast tonight.
I didn't learn about this from them. They never contacted me. Even though I have one of the most-read blogs in Eugene, the Eugene news people didn't see fit to so much as send me an e-mail asking for a comment, or even letting me know they are doing this.
How did I find out about the upcoming news story?
From a blog.
Oh, the irony!
But I did at least hear a radio commercial for the spot... after reading about it, that is. The infobabe in it sounds particularly clueless. For one thing, she refers to "the world of blogs." If she actually read a blog, she'd know that we call it the blogosphere. I also wouldn't be surprised if she refers to "web blogs," not realizing that the very word blog is short for "web log." That irritates me, much as the use of the phrase "ATM machine" irritates me.
Sigh...
So I have set up to record said program tonight. It might be entertaining, if not informative. I wonder if they will bother to mention that blogs are fueling the campaign of Senator Jason Atkinson for Governor of Oregon? Somehow, I doubt they will.
It should be interesting to see what is reported.
You going to see Harry Potter tonight at 12:01?

I have to hold off on Harry Potter for a few weeks. For one thing, money is tight and our next payday is December 1. For another thing, I can't stand fighting crowds and putting up with the inconsiderate clods who frequent movie theaters.

Web blogs - to distinguish from the other kind.
And the ATM Machine is the official designation of the Department of Redundancy Department.
