Over the last few days, we have seen Europe erupt in a firestorm over some political cartoons that poke fun at Mohamed.
Sure, I understand that a person can be offended by a cartoon. But I don't understand threatening to blow up buildings and kill people over it. Here is what makes our system different from theirs:
An insulting cartoon runs in the paper, and people write in letters explaining why they are upset. If the situation gets worse, people stop buying that paper. If it gets really out of hand, people start campaigns to boycott those who advertise in that paper. Wow, that's pretty extreme! But toss Islam into the mix, and letters to the editor become bombs and boycotts become bullets.
That is simply not compatible with a civilized society.
I think what we need to do is make a new movie about it. After all, if Michael Moore can make a movie like Fahrenheit 9/11, and George Clooney can make a movie like Syriana, why can't we make a movie about the threat of political cartoons in the geopolitical struggle of Islam and the West?
Here's a thought... let's find a nice Jewish director to make the movie. Maybe we can get Kevin Bacon to play Mohamed...
Mmmmmm... bacon...

Er, I do believe that Sinead O'Connor happened to do something anti-Catholic (ripped a photo of the Pope). The FCC fined NBC $2.5 million for it and NBC censored future broadcasts of it.
So, well, we censor people we don't like using the powers that be. Muslims publicly protest. You choose who lacks the sense of humor.

Wasn't that like, 15 years ago? And I think there's a big difference between some corporate entity being fined and people issuing fatwas and burning consulate buildings (among other things).

The fine is an urban legend. The FCC has NEVER fined SNL over the Sinead O'Connor affair. It is a made up story.

If Keanu Reeves can get cast as Siddhartha in "Little Buddha," Kevin Bacon should a shoo-in for the role.

well, you say insulting a prophet isn`t blasphemous but speaking up `gainst the Holocaust is a major crime in Europe.you maniac, hypocrite, americans and Europians you lick those stupid jewish boots with pride and deride others who wish a separate homeland for themselves

Hypocrite? No, the difference between my side and your side is that your side thinks that the best way to achieve its goals is to send homicide bombers into schools and bus stations, killing innocent children and women. We may lick Jewish boots, but you want to drive the Jewish people into the sea. Which is better in the eyes of the Lord? I'm guessing my God (Who is the same God as yours you ignorant prick) doesn't look favorably on genocide.
