While out for the weekend, I missed this when it was breaking news. Fortunately, other bloggers have been able to get the word out:
Governor Kulongoski wakes up and realizes that sending state employees to participate in the Carousel of Crime is a bad idea.
This is an amazing turn around, considering that just over a month ago he was busy defending state participation to help criminal illegal aliens.
What caused this turn around flip-flop? Could it be that enough people have become aware of what is really going on that our voices are being heard (in an election year)?
This much is certain: the Governor has tried to maintain two positions on aiding and abetting criminal illegal aliens. Either he was wrong then, or he is wrong now. Or, either he was lying then, or he is lying now. Either way, it sure looks bad this close to an election, eh? This is why we need to elect the only candidate to have a clear and consistent message on illegal immigration from the beginning of the campaign, a message not dictated to him by talk radio, xenophobic special interest groups, or his political opponents: Jason Atkinson.
But one important thing must be made clear:
THIS DOES NOT MEAN AN END TO THE CAROUSEL OF CRIME.
No, it just means that state agencies under Ted's control won't be sending manpower. But the carousels are still going on. Worse, other state agents, such as Labor Commissioner Dan Gardner, are anxious to fill the void.
Labor Commissioner Dan Gardner says the Bureau of Labor and Industries will send a representative to today's Carousel in Medford. The bureau falls under Gardner's authority as an elected state official and not under the governor's office. Gardner said it is not his agency's job to assess someone's immigration status.
I join Daniel in lambasting this latest criminal co-conspirator. Let's add his name to the list of incumbents we'd like to see voted out of office as soon as possible!
