Veterans need to buy stuff, you know...
So here we are, happily settling in to our new home, when we say "you know what we need is some shelves in the garage."
Trouble is, the day we both have free is also a holiday. Apparently, businesses think there is no better way to honor our military members who have sacrificed everything for our freedom than to take a day off of work.
Let me tell you all something:
Several of my friends from my time in service are no longer among the living. And every single one of them would be pissed that slackers are taking a day off because of them. America is great because we work hard and succeed, not because we look for an excuse to stay home and barbecue.
So it took quite a bit of exploring around the new town to find a place that was open so we could buy some wood and some brackets. We ended up at Home Depot, which was not only open, but was actually doing something for the military.
You see, Home Depot offered an additional 10% off all purchases by all veterans.
I am now sold on Home Depot. Forever.
HOME DEPOT supports DAY LABOR centers for ILLEGAL ALIENS, little boy Gully.
So you support GAY marriage, Taxpayers funding ART and now Home Depot?
The comments registered at O explain your ability to lose your audience.
You and Ben can play hopscoth all summer 'cause you aren't going anywhere else, like a meeting with normal adults.
GEE if you were a MAN, You could SHOP on any day of the week and let our retailers take a day off in HONOR of our VETERANS.

Ever visited a Lowe's? I did, last Friday. Every freaking sign they have in the store is printed in English and in Espanol!
I turned to my Bride and asked, "Are we in Quebec?" Oh wait - that's French, not Spanish.
I'm not shopping at Lowe's, that's for sure.

For me the best memorial day moment was in DC heading to the parade last year. I was in the subway heading to the parade and we stop at the Pentagon stop where several members of our military get on in full uniform. Instantly, the entire car was applauding and chanting "USA, USA, USA" for these heroes.
Made me proud to be an American.

Rick, I am more of a man than you can ever be, and I am prepared to personally beat the shit out of you in front of your family if necessary. You are hearby BANNED from this site for being a general jackass.
And if this is the type of behavior we can expect from Oregonians for Immigration Reform, then I need to sever all ties with your organization. You do not speak for me.

Rick,
I don't like either nominee, and I don't like you.
This is a post about a store that is giving veterans a discount, and you are going off the handle (again) about... whatever it is you are ranting about.
You are the spokesman for what you purport to be a "serious" organization, and here you are berating an individual because, horror of horrors, he thought Ron Saxton was a bad candidate.
Guess what, Rick? More than half of the GOP who voted agreed that Ron was a bad candidate. A lot of that is due directly to you and your idiotic little organization.
Now quit trying to give lessons in manliness to a blogger who wore the uniform defending his country so that assholes like you could blather on. You aren't fit to lick his feet. And they are BIG feet. You know what that means.
Gully is right: as long as you are speaking for OFIR, you aren't speaking for me, and I should be ON YOUR SIDE as I find immigration to be one of our biggest issues. But you make the cause seem stupid, petty, and even racist.
I think OFIR needs to put you out to pasture, before you drive it into the ground with your infantile attacks on bloggers for daring to have an opinion other than yours.
Now, back to the original intent of the post:
I commend Home Depot for giving veterans a break on expensive purchases. And I commend them for being open 24/7, because some household repairs really can't wait until Tuesday, as I found out myself when water was spilling all over my house and plumbers didn't want to come out on a holiday.
You seem fixated on retailers giving employees a break. Gully, meanwhile, is reporting on a store giving VETERANS a break.
Gully wins. You lose. Neener neener neener. That's about how stupid you sound, Rick. Get over your self.
Oh, and don't be surprised if, before November, Ron Saxton is also in favor of gay marriage. He's already flopping on abortion. And, giggle giggle, he's even flopping now on, gasp, IMMIGRATION.
Buy a bottle of Pinot Noir. It goes well with CROW.

Interesting:
If you read this article--
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/10/10/national/10depot.html?pagewanted=1&ei=5088&en=f7d8881a5ad66a46&ex=1286596800&partner=rssnyt&emc=rss
--it sure sounds like Home Depot is desperately trying to curb the problem of illegals gathering on their property. But that goes against what is becoming more and more clear as the OFIR position: if you aren't on the border with an M-16 ready to shoot to kill any brown-skinned person on sight, you must be some sort of RINO who supports amnesty for illegal aliens and aids and abets illegal labor.
I suppose when I make comments like "English should be our national language" and "we should eliminate the anchor baby loophole" and "let's punish employers who hire illegals," that all translates to "I support amnesty" as far as Rick is concerned.
I suppose when I show up at a "carousel of information" with a camera and a sign, then post about it on my blog, I am helping illegal day labor as far as Rick is concerned.
Rick claims to be all high-and-mighty on immigration, but he demonstrates nothing but contempt for someone who strongly supports tough immigration reform. And he does it by making personal attacks, in a post about Memorial Day, on a proud veteran.
If THIS is what conservatives in Oregon have for "leadership" then no wonder we have had two decades of liberals in power.

Wish I'd known about Home Depot yesterday - I was there spec'ing out a door for the house. That would have saved me $55 if I'd ordered it then.

Hello Gully Marriage should be between one man and one woman no civil unions. I don't see why special interest want to overtax our state,do they want children to pay for it in the future. when we are still at war in iraq and things need fixing, they are taking money away from the budget that could go into paying much more needed things like fixing Roads and state parks need upkept and medicare for veterans.social security still needs fixing.
Gods blessings,
Tammy and Anthony Brotton

Interesting people on this site. Beat the shit out of Rick??? People like you are the reasons why we have a domestic problem in this country. You thing like a caveman. Are you from Cave Junction?
Is that all you can say or do? Beat the shit out of someone? THEN WHAT? You would feel better? How old are you? 10.... 8.....??
Is Rambo your favorite move? Unbelievable people... we have a problem with Illegal Immigration in this country. POINT BLANK!!! Doesn't matter if you're a Mexican or from Africa. Immigrants are sucking our economy dry and a LOT of immigrants come here and HATE you..
Do you understand how bad it is, or are you to busy beating up your wife and kids? Hate!!! These are your words...HATE.... Does Rick make you angry? So you want to hit him like a 6 year old. Grow up little man. You may have the ability to beat Rick up or even me....THEN WHAT!!!
Have something a little more inelegant to say. Give Rick your inelegant rebuttal. I know him pretty well. I don't agree with everything he says like you don't. But I'm not a control freak like most of you are. Listen....Learn...talk....ask questions... But don't say I HATE YOU!!! WAAA WAAA!!! I'm going to hit you!!!
You wonder why kids today are so lost. These are their parents.
Do us all a favor. If you're not going to agree with someone. Be an adult about it or get of off internet and go get some anger management training.
