I can imagine him saying to his inner circle: "Yes, I am dissolving our government, setting me up to become the world's most powerful dictator, as I was always meant to be; but the people won't notice as long as they are having sex!"
I think Fred Thompson needs to choose a Vice-President who is an expert on Cold War-Era Soviet affairs, someone who knows Russian culture, language, and politics. Who could that be?
Fred Thompson won't choose a Vice President. It's doubtful he'll even get to choose a Vice Presidential candidate.
Too many Americans now see that a dim-witted pseudo-tough-guy is disastrous when put in charge of the country.

Ms. Rice - interesting theory.
I hope Fred stays away from the beauty pageants, aka "debates". They are nothing but a farce and he needs to stand out as a man of his own that doesn't follow the wimps nor cares about the polls.
GO FRED!

Here's a bet for you, "pardon":
I bet Fred wins the primary.
If I am right, you will stop leaving your ridiculous comments here.
If I am wrong, I won't vote Republican in the general election.

Gully,
First off, I haven't yet left any ridiculous comments, so that's an easy one for me to stop. :-)
Anyway, I'm inclined to accept your bet, but define "primary". Do you mean that he'll win in Oregon (which will be virtually meaningless), or do you mean that he'll actually win the Republican nomination? Or that he wins a primary somewhere?
I'll gladly bet that Fred Thompson won't win the Republican nomination for President in 2008.

Fred/Condi ... hmmm ... I'm linking that! Interesting combo.
I have to agree with you ... I'm not really a fan of any other candiate.

Fred will be the nominee. Now, do you want to double up on the D primaries, or are you less sure of those?
Posted by: Gullyborg | Thursday, 13 September 2007 at 09:37 PM
No, I don't want to bet on the D nomination process, partly because I think the most likely nominee is one I don't particularly want to see get the nomination.
I'd be surprised if FT is in the race up to the New Hampshire primary.

And all the "experts" in 1980 said there was no way Ronald Reagan could (or should) win this nomination... or the White House.
I'm loving this!

Actually, Gully, I had at least one U of O Poli Sci professor say that Reagan probably would have won the 1976 election.
My recollection is that Reagan was the front runner for the 1980 nomination from the outset. I don't remember widespread dispute of that.
But maybe that's because my Republican connections were Reagan fans.
Carter was likely to lose in 1980 because the economy tanked that year, though it was still better than the first four years of Reagan's Presidency.

This is from Time Magazine, November 12, 1979:
"Next week former California Governor Ronald Reagan will announce his latest attempt. On this, his third time round. Reagan will enter the race as the early favorite for the Republican nomination."
And this is from Time Magazine, March 31, 1980:
"But last week, after Ford gave up his own ambitions and Reagan's nomination took on a look of inevitability, a reassessment was under way across the country. The consensus was that although many hazards lie ahead, Ronald Reagan indeed has a chance to be elected as the 40th President of the U.S."
The experts were saying that Reagan was the favorite to win the nomination, and early on were saying he had a chance to win the General Election.

that really would be an awesome pair! it would be as if the old confederate south (at least his belief in 'States rights') worked hand in hand with the slaves....wonderful. GO FRED!

I thought Putin liked little boys? Seriously, we are going to need Condi in the coming years. If Fred could get her involved in his coming administration, I'd rest easier.
