Mike Huckabee, Mr. "in-state tuition for illegal aliens" and "open borders for Jesus," has just been endorsed by Jim Gilchrist, founder of the anti-illegal-immigration Minutemen group.
You read that right.
I heard this yesterday and didn't post anything because I wanted to make sure it wasn't a web hoax or some other mistake. But today it is confirmed. Rather than write my own essay, I point you to Michelle Malkin.
My only explanation is that Gilchrist has looked into the magic mirror and seen Huckabee winning the nomination, and now he wants to play inside ball with a winner instead of standing up for principles. With an attitude like that, he may as well be snuggling up with Obama. So now he has sold out his top issue to win favor with Huckabee. I hope those 30 pieces of silver pay off for him. But I'll bet they won't.
My prediction: this will do more to hurt the Minutemen than it will do to help Huckabee. Huckabee has been surging despite his obvious immigration failures. He didn't need this endorsement. But now Gilchrist will need to turn over his mantle on immigration to someone else.
oh, and now that i know who this gilchrist guy is, just thought i would mention as far as huckabee is concerned....i am a very conservative Christian. and i wouldn't vote for huckabee in a million years unless i felt God was commanding it. period. the guy is not what he appears to be in opinion.

problem is, Huckabee thinks God IS commanding it, and so do a rather large number of voters.
I just hope that number isn't so large that they can vote him in even when all the sane voters choose otherwise.
