We have an update: a majority of respondents oppose the new emissions standards!
Now the Japanese are making robot children.
Do we really need robot children? Isn't it more fun making them the old fashioned way? Or will the old fashioned way be replaced by these? Combine those girl robots with the new skin sensors, and the old fashioned way just might become a thing of the past... How long until life itself is obsolete and no longer necessary?
And what is it with the Japanese and robots, anyway? Didn't they learn their lesson about playing God when their fearless leader was attacked by their own robot creation?
As you may have noticed, my straw poll was down more than it was functional. I have decided to replace it with one from a different firm. The downside, of course, is that two weeks of voting just got wiped out. But on the upside, this one should be functional far more often. If you are one of those "come by and vote every day" people, you should have more than a fair chance to make up for those votes which have disappeared into the ether.
Please, continue to support your favorite choice for the 2008 GOP Presidential Nomination!
Why isn't this labeled as a "hate crime"?
Congratulations go to Cavy, who posted comment number 1,000!
Cavy wins a special prize: publicity for the website of Cavy's choice. I e-mailed Cavy earlier and just got a reply. I have to say, I couldn't have picked a better website to plug:
As Cavy put it in the e-mail, "It is an abomination what the fools in NY are trying to do!" I couldn't agree more. For those of you who haven't been paying attention...
Read The Great Ground Zero Heist.
There are forces, powerful, shadowy forces, moving in America, moving to change the way Americans view themselves and are viewed around the world. They don't think of America as a force for good, but a contributor to evil. And the people behind these forces have got their feet in the door in the creation of the 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero -- American Holy Ground. They are taking a site that, for the average American, has become our Mecca, our Wailing Wall, our Notre Dame, our Angor Wat, and they are trying to manipulate the message to be enshrined there.
They don't want the memorial to pay tribute to America's freedoms, to remember the sacrifices of our Armed Forces, our Firemen, our Police, or to honor the loss of 3,000 innocents killed by terror. They want the memorial to show how shameful we should be for oppressing the Native Americans, for owning slaves, and for our continued oppression around the world. In a nutshell, they want the memorial to place the blame for 9/11 on America's own wrongdoing.
And so we must take back the memorial.
As New York's former Mayor Giuliani, the man in charge the day terrorists destroyed the World Trade Center, puts it:
Those who visit should be able to relive the experience in a way that does justice to the enormity of the events... Done correctly, the memorial at ground zero will commemorate the horror and the heroism of Sept. 11.
But Giuliani's vision may never come to pass, not if people like George Soros have their way. So visit the take back the memorial site and sign their petition today.
We must never forget what happened on 9/11, nor diminish the suffering and sacrifice of the American people. And we must never allow those who hate us to have their hatred strengthened by a twisted message of hate placed on our most Holy Ground.
He once wore plaid pants, in the 1970's, while a teenager. He must be gay.
And let's not overlook the rest of his family...
Seriously, if this is the BEST the moonbat left can come up with to bash the distinguished Judge Roberts, then he will easily, easily be confirmed to the Supreme Court.
Meanwhile, anyone who is gay and still thinks his political friends can be found on America's left should start rethinking...
No confirmation, but if this story is true, it proves Volokh's point in the previous post.
I wrote this back in November. It's long, but worth reading again. How would you say it holds up?
I had a great time at the speech by Dan Flynn. I picked up FMIL and we got there pretty early; good planning, because soon after we arrived just about every seat was taken. And I met Rose there! She's every bit as witty and charming in person as she is on-line.
Flynn made a great point when he compared today's "anything but AmeriKKKa" left to the People's Front of Judea:
Apart from the sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?
That's Flynn's central message: apart from being the greatest nation in the world, where people have more freedom than anywhere else, where innovations cure diseases and increase crop yields, where women and minorities gained the right to vote, where immigrants can become the Governor of California, where industry provides airplanes and cars and televisions and computers and microwaves and telephones to make the world a better place, where our big fight is over whether or not women should golf at Augusta instead of whether or not women should undergo forced genital mutilation... what has America ever done for us?
Hippie hecklers were successfully held at bay. One hippie tried to make a point about how evil rethugniKKKans cut school lunches and now his little brother wasn't getting enough to eat. This hippie was a U of O student. I wish I had been able to reply. I would have said:
You are mighty damn selfish, spending your money and your time here at the U of O, when you could be working to provide for your family! Ever heard of sacrifice? You expect the rest of the country to sacrifice their tax dollars to feed your little brother; why don't YOU sacrifice and put college on hold for a few years while you earn a paycheck to help your family?
But then, I don't make the big dollars yet, so I don't get the microphone.
More important, though, I was glad to see so many young conservatives at the predominantly liberal U of O attending the speech. We are making progress.
